This short novel is my first "real" science fiction story. I have previously written books that have science fiction themes, but they have been mixed with other genres, e.g. March of the Cadavers (horror/SF). Science fiction has always fascinated me, in terms of both film and literature. It is a genre that is all-encompassing, and there are infinite possibilities to venture down new and interesting paths. You can easily insert your all-important message into the plot and make it entertaining at the same time. A pertinent plot that incorporates philosophy and fantasy in an exciting way. Machines Have No Perception of Skin is about a high school boy, Johnny Uno, who is convinced that he is a machine. He talks and thinks like a robot and refuses to follow well-meaning advice from his parents, friends, and doctor, who all want to fix his problematic behavior. Johnny's best friend, Ryan, thinks he’s just insecure. All Johnny needs is a friendly nudge in the direction of the amazing Diana, who is in love with him. But Johnny is not ready for love. He is programmed to work on a mysterious book 24/7, the contents of which he doesn’t even understand. It sounds crazy, but Johnny's strange behavior doesn’t deter Diana in the slightest. She’s very flirtatious and tries to get him to change his mind. At some point, she starts getting in the way of his writing, and Johnny can only see one solution: Diana must die! The title of the book is a nod to Philip K. Dick's famous science fiction novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? In my opinion, that’s one of the best science fiction titles ever. The novel was adapted for the 1982 film Blade Runner – a scenic masterpiece directed by Ridley Scott with Harrison Ford in the title role.
