Beskrivelse

Hymn to Beauty
===
Charles Baudelaire is regarded as the first modern poet in the world, breaking the chains of traditional beauty in form and contents. He invented a new beauty, more ambiguous, more violent than ever seen before. A beauty suited to describe the coarse way of life in the new cities of Europe with their poverty and crime; the beauty of the evil. In his scary poems, he claims the moral of destruction, like the surrealists and futurists did 50 years later.

He was, rightly, accused for blasphemy, and he threw away all traditional values but the rules of formal beauty. The nightmares and monsters found in his love texts, always intertwining with his true affection for his mistresses, were partly caused by a mental disorder called Tourette's syndrome, often found with very creative artists. And though his personal suffering and trauma, he created a poetic wasteland to be filled with new visions, new words, new worlds.
