In this book, the author tells the story of Internet from the very beginning to what it is today through his own observations an experiences as one of the pioneers at the time.
He tells about the aim of IBM to establish an internet like network by having the state monopoly abandoned, thus being able to offer such services worldwide and why IBM succeeded with the first and failed the second goal.
How IBM tried to form a joint venture in the UK with British Telecom - failed - but later succeeded with danNet in Denmark.
From a technical perspective the book spans the original Internet in the US over the establishment of www to the present Internet, based on TCP/IP.
