The communication and dissemination of research form an important aspect of the relationship between scholar and informant in visual anthropology.

Research employing film as method cannot avoid reflections on how to communicate with informants and how to represent their stories audio-visually, requiring that the anthropologist is conscious about her own participation in the whole process.

This book looks into the concept of reflexivity, exploring the many ways in which it is used, and linking it to the cultural forms of expression of modernity, as well as to the research methods used in the social sciences. It also presents the historical role of visual media in the production of knowledge and in research communication. Visual media are part and parcel of living culture and underpin important aesthetic and ethical issues related to the construction of social life.
